Herbal Tea with Milk

It can either impart good health or give one a free ticket to various ailments that ultimately leads to suffering and misery. Use basic Ayurvedic principles in your daily food habit. Here will give some simple beverages (herbal tea and medicated milk) which have health-promotion power and have been passed down from generations in India.

1.Herbal Teas- Kapha tea, Vata tea, Pitta tea

We all love tea. throughout the year we do taste various types of teas.-Ginger tea, lemon tea, iced tea. We greet our visitors with tea. In any brainstorming discussion tea is essential. It’s like an energy booster. Here will give you some simple recipes of beverages which you can definitely try besides your regular beverages. These teas act as an aid to pacify the three types of doshas, These are very simple to make.

Vata Pacifying Herbal Tea

Ingredients Required:

  • 4 regular cups of water
  • 1 tablespoon fennel seeds
  • 1 tablespoon coriander
  • 2 pods of cardamom
  • ⅟2 tablespoon of dried ginger/ginger powder
  • 1 teaspoon honey/rock candy

Procedure:

Boil the water, add all the above-mentioned ingredients and keep on low flame for 3 to5   minutes. Put off the flame. Add 1 teaspoon honey or rock candy for taste, Strain and serve hot.

Pitta Pacifying Herbal Tea

Ingredients Required:

  • 4 regular cups of water
  • 1 tablespoon coriander seeds
  • 1 tablespoon mint leaves
  • 2 pods of cardamom
  • 2 small pieces of liquorice
  • ⅟2 tablespoon of rose petals
  • 1 teaspoon rock candy

Procedure:

Boil the water, add all the above-mentioned ingredients and keep on low flame for 3 to5   minutes. Add rock candy for taste. Put off the flame. Strain and serve cool.

Kapha Pacifying Herbal Tea

Ingredients Required:

  • 4 regular cups of water
  • 4 cloves
  • 10-15 holy basil (tulsi)leaves
  • ⅟2 tablespoon of cinnamon powder
  • ⅟2 tablespoon of ginger powder
  • 1 teaspoon honey

Procedure:

Boil the water, add all the above-mentioned ingredients and simmer for 3 to5   minutes. Put off the flame. Add honey for taste. Strain and serve hot.

Milk Tea or Chai

We’ll are very familiar with Milk Tea or Chai. Here I am giving a simple twist to our favorite chai. Simply by adding some easily available spices, you can create a tea which not only uplifts your mood at the same time pacifies the three doshas of the body  This tea is balancing for all three doshas

Ingredients Required:

  • 3 cups of water
  • 4 cloves
  • 2 pinches nutmeg, ground
  • 2 pinches ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 inch piece of fresh ginger, chopped fine
  • 1 tsp black tea
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 tsp rock candy

Spiced Tea

           Procedure

Boil the water with the spices for 3 minutes. Put the tea and simmer for 2 minutes. Add the milk and heat until hot but not boiling.

Mix sweetener and serve.

You may vary the amounts of milk and sweetener according to taste and dosha. Of course, increasing milk and/or sweetener can provoke Kapha, so take care.

Besides herbal tea medicated milk also plays an important role in healing the body. There are various combinations of medicated milk. Some of them are as follows.

  1. Medicated Milk

  • For Kapha disorder mainly

No. 1 – Peppercorns

1/2 tsp peppercorns, ground
1 cup of cow milk
1/4 cup water

Mix all ingredients and heat to boiling point. Continue to cook on medium heat, stirring constantly, until there is 1 cup of liquid left.

This is good as a liver and gallbladder flush. It is used effectively for a high-Kapha person with lymphatic congestion.

No. 2 – Pippali (Indian long pepper)

1/2 tsp ground pippali,
1 cup of cow milk
1/4 cup water

Mix all ingredients and heat to boiling point. Continue to cook on medium heat, stirring constantly, until there is 1 cup of liquid left.

This medicated milk is good for chronic bronchial congestion, Kapha-type asthmatic congestion and is also effective in Kapha-type respiratory tract allergies.

No. 3 – Turmeric

1/2 tsp turmeric
1 cup of cow milk
1/4 cup water

Mix all ingredients and heat to boiling point. Continue to cook on medium heat, stirring constantly, until reduced to 1 cup of liquid.

This is good for pharyngitis, laryngitis, and hoarseness of the voice. It is also effective for acute tonsillar congestion and acute Kapha-pitta conditions of the lungs. Considered a natural antiseptic.

No. 4 – Ginger Powder

1/2 tsp powdered ginger
1 cup of cow milk
1/4 cup water

Mix all ingredients and heat to boiling. Continue to cook on medium heat, stirring constantly, until reduced to a cup of liquid. This medicated milk is considered good for mucus in the colon, chronic indigestion and Kapha-Vata respiratory conditions like dry cough and emphysema.
